In 1969, the US Department of Defence started with a project to allow researchers and military personnel to communicate with each other in an emergency and named the project as ARPANET. Later in 1980s another federal agency, National Science Foundation, created a new network called NSF NET for academic and engineering research. This network was more capable than ARPANET. NSF NET allowed only the researchers to be connected with its network and any kind of private business was not allowed on it.
